Coos Bay Habitat for Humanity

Coos Bay Area Habitat for Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing organization. Habitat for Humanity works in partnership wiht people in need to build safe, decent housing. Volunteers provide most of the labor, and individual and corporate donors provide money and materials to build Habitat houses. Partner families themselves invest hundreds of hours of labor – “sweat equity”- into building their homes and the homes of others. The houses are then sold with no interest to those families. The moeny paid back goes into a fund for more housing. We provide a hand-up, not a handout.

Eighteen families – 26 adults and 54 children – have been given a hand-up, out of substandard housing, through Coos Bay Area Habitat for Humanity. This is NOT a giveaway program; the families not only invest hundreds of hours od labor (sweat equity) into the building of their houses, their monthly mortgage payments goe into a fund to build more houses. Plus, thier property taxes help support local government and schools.
