Alternative Youth Activities, Inc.

AYA is chartered to provide alternative educational opportunities to high school students who have been unsuccessful in the public school sector. AYA is a non-profit organization established in 1979. It is fully accredited by the Northwest Association of Accredited Schools. We are comprised of four separate school sites covering Coos and Western Douglas counties. AYA provides individualized learning programs to meet student academic needs and goals and provides training in life skills and effective parenting. All school supplies are free of charge. Breakfast and lunch to all students is free of charge regardless of financial status.

We provide the following programs:

  • Full day alternative school for North Bend high school
  • Reedsport High School ( and a few junior high and elementary students on case by case basis). The main thrust of the alternative schools is credit recovery, although there are some students who are with us becasue they have been expelled, came too late to register for the term, cannot meet the attendance criteria for the high school, or simply don’t function in the regular school setting.
  • Full day educational program for youth in Coos County Juvenile Detention
  • Full day education/counseling/treatment for court mandated students at Coos Councy Youth Opportunity Program
  • Partial day educational program for youth in Belloni Shelter Care
  • Evening school for North Bend High School students in need of credit recovery
